Mayo Mats

The Mayo Mat is a specially designed anti-fatigue mat for performance horses. It has been manufactured in Ireland for about 15 years. This mat is not used for the same reason as rubber mats whose primary purpose is stall cleanliness. On the other hand, a Mayo Mat is used for the same reason that an anti-fatigue mat is used for humans. It is to prevent strains on tendons and muscles from extended periods of standing on a hard surface. Horses on Mayo Mats are extremely well rested. The floor under the hoof is better adapted to the natural dynamic of a horse’s anatomy and there is virtually no shock transmitted upwards through the horses hoof, ankle, leg, and spine. This eliminates the main reason for bedding and so only a small amount of bedding is needed for dryness and this is usually only required in a limited area of the stall. By reducing bedding in the stall a primary cause of dust is reduced so horses with pulmonary conditions can be expected to recover faster and to respond better to treatments. Mayo Mats do not become slippery and are excellent for wash stalls. They also never absorb anything and so do not contribute to odor or hygiene problems. And finally, Mayo Mats do not wear out.
